AMENDED Advertisement for DAAD In-Country/In-Region Programme Scholarships

Objectives of the Programme

DAAD, as a publicly funded, self-governing organisation of the institutions of higher education in Germany, promotes international academic exchange as well as educational co-operation with de- veloping countries through a variety of funding and scholarship programmes.

The objective of this support programme is to promote the postgraduate training programme at University of Nairobi

It has been agreed upon that DAAD collaborates with University of Nairobi by offering:

  •   Up to 7 Master Scholarships for this year’s intake

  •   Up to 7 PhD Scholarships for this year’s intake 

Applicants 

  • Must be nominated by University of Nairobi.

  • Must have completed their last university degree less than 6 years ago at the time of applica-

    tion.

  • Must be nationals of a Sub-Saharan African country.

  • Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups will be especially encour- aged to participate in the programme 

 

Eligible Fields 

Eligible at various Faculties including the Centre for Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy (CASELAP)

Eligible applicants must have completed their last university degree less than 6 years ago at the time of application.  The applicants will start their studies in September 2016 in the following programmes:

  • Master of Arts in Environmental Policy
  • Master of Arts in Environmental Law
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Policy
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Law

 

Duration and Commencement 

  1. The duration of the Masters programme is two years and that of PhD programmes three years generally starting in September 2016. 

Application Procedure and Guidelines 

  1. University of Nairobi will advertise, screen, pre-select, short-list and rank up to 28 applications. A complete list (names only) of all the applicants, pre-selected applicants (ranked), a pre-selection report(s) indicating the members of the pre-selection and explaining the criteria employed, has to be submitted to DAAD Nairobi office not later than 1st April 2016 via email: applications@daadafrica.org

    Once the list is submitted, University of Nairobi shall inform all the up to 28 pre-selected candidates to log into the DAAD portal https://portal.daad.de/irj/portal and register themselves and submit an application. For any technical matters in regard to the DAAD Portal they will get in touch with the DAAD team. DAAD reserves the right of final selection. Applicants who do not submit their applica- tion and all the required documents to DAAD via the provided portal will not be considered.

  2. The deadline for the portal application is 30th April 2016. 

  3. There after DAAD shall conduct the final selection in June 2016. The final decision on the number of scholarships awarded to your institution will be determined by:

    1. The number of pre-selected applicants provided by the institution where double the number of attributed scholarships is expected

    2. The rule that a 1/3 of the shortlisted applicants have to be from another institution and or country.

    3. The quality of applications sent to us.

    4. Gender balance. 

Terms and Conditions 

DAAD expects a detailed report about the academic progress of the supported students before the renewal of the scholarships. The scholarships are initially granted for one year and can be extended to upon receipt of an application for renewal by using the provided form. Scholars must demonstrate satisfactory progress before an extension is granted.

In line with the accreditation and quality assurance requirements, University of Nairobi will be re- quired to actively participate in the DAAD monitoring efforts of the entire scholarship program.

The scholarship holders have to submit a copy of their degree certificates after completion of studies.
