CASELAP Faculty Dr Richard Mulwa has been invited by Government of Rwanda to speak at 7th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW) and attend the FARA General Assembly, 13-16 June 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Dr Mulwa is expected to participate in the “Action Planning for Demand-led Capacity Development for Country Implementation of the CAADP & Science Agenda for Agriculture in Africa” side event.

The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and the Government of Rwanda working in collaboration with several co-organisers have the pleasure and honour to invite you to participate in the 7th Africa Agriculture Science Week and FARA General Assembly in Kigali, Rwanda from 13th to 16th June 2016.

The AASW has become greatly valued by stakeholders in Africa’s agricultural research and innovation who look forward to converging at these events every three years to network and strike partnerships; to share knowledge and experiences, and crucially, to identify the key collective actions they should jointly pursue to achieve their common goals.

The upcoming AASW features many firsts. It is the first such event since African Heads of State and Governments (HoSG) adopted the 2014 Malabo Declaration on Accelerating African Agricultural Growth and Transformation (3AGT). In this declaration they recommitted to pursuing an agriculture-led and innovation-driven growth in line with the refreshed CAADP vision. It is also the first AASW after the HoSG adopted the FARA-led Science Agenda for Agriculture in Africa and the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA- 2024). Furthermore, this AASW is being held less than a year after world leaders adopted the Sustainable Development Goals and after the CGIAR adopted a new Strategy and Results Framework (2016-2030).

The 7th AASW is therefore an opportune occasion and space for stakeholders to work out how they will align with these strategic frameworks and how they will operationalise them at national level—the theatre where most of the needed interventions take place. The theme of the event is “apply science, impact livelihoods”.

CASELAP Wishes Dr Mulwa the best in this endeavour
